After 2 years since my last enquiry to Panasonic to add WPA support to their IP cameras, I saw today that they offer it on a new version BL-C131. They told me 2006-02 that they had no intention of offering WPA on the IP cameras. They have obviously realized since that WEP is insecure. However they still do not have a firmware upgrade to the BL-C30 for WPA.
I sent this email reply to them today, as a follow up to their last reply:
I am an owner of several BL-C30 cameras. I enquired about Panasonic adding WPA support to the BL-C30 firmware in 2006. Panasonic has a new model BL-C131 that includes WPA support. I'd like to know when you plan to upgrade the BL-C30 firmware to WPA as well? It is a known fact that WEP is not secure, and having to use WEP on my network is a security hole. I've been waiting 2 years now for Panasonic to see the light regarding the flawed WEP encryption. I'm glad to see that they are at least including it in new products. If Panasonic isn't interested in creating secure firmware for older products, why don't you offer a discount for current owners to upgrade to new models at the very least? I believe Panasonic has a moral obligation to keep product firmware secure, or offer upgrade programs for insecure products they decide to abandon.
