They declined me cause I don't have enough postings in my blog, so they say it isn't "valuable". Interesting. Not unlike some people can't get a job due to lack of experience. But if they can't get a job, they...

Dell SP2208WFP Monitor2008/02/24 @ 11:11am

Just got one of these to use as the TV in the bedroom. Great monitor, with a decent 2MP webcam built in.

So far the drawback is the webcam driver seems to be a non-standard WDM format. Only the included software can access the video correctly.

Many WDM webcam apps can't access the video from this driver. I can't find any info yet on this problem.

One workaround is to use the SplitCam software to generate a second WDM video feed from the camera. And use the SplitCam WDM video source that SplitCam creates.

Movie Review - Jumpers2008/02/24 @ 10:08am

This movie was disappointing. I was looking forward to seeing this one. Fun concept, cute hero, great special effects, okay action scenes, very poor writing, and extremely boring scenes between the action. The overall impression is bad.

Wait for the DVD, if you bother seeing it at all.

Panasonic BL-C30 WPA Reply2008/02/19 @ 9:51am

I finally heard back from Panasonic. They have no intention of upgrading the firmware in the BL-C30 camera to WPA. Lame!

Here is the reply:

Thank you for your email.

In regards to the BLC30, not it is not WPA compatible and will not be from what I have heard. At this time there is as you mentioned a new model being released that will include WPA encryption but the original BLC30 unit will remain as is. We do appreciate your feedback and hope that while this is not the response you were looking for, we hope to assist you in the future with any other requests or comments you may have.

Sincerely,
Panasonic Canada Inc.

Pansonic BL-C30 Camera WEP Issue2008/02/14 @ 10:28am

After 2 years since my last enquiry to Panasonic to add WPA support to their IP cameras, I saw today that they offer it on a new version BL-C131. They told me 2006-02 that they had no intention of offering WPA on the IP cameras. They have obviously realized since that WEP is insecure. However they still do not have a firmware upgrade to the BL-C30 for WPA.

I sent this email reply to them today, as a follow up to their last reply:

I am an owner of several BL-C30 cameras. I enquired about Panasonic adding WPA support to the BL-C30 firmware in 2006. Panasonic has a new model BL-C131 that includes WPA support. I'd like to know when you plan to upgrade the BL-C30 firmware to WPA as well? It is a known fact that WEP is not secure, and having to use WEP on my network is a security hole. I've been waiting 2 years now for Panasonic to see the light regarding the flawed WEP encryption. I'm glad to see that they are at least including it in new products. If Panasonic isn't interested in creating secure firmware for older products, why don't you offer a discount for current owners to upgrade to new models at the very least? I believe Panasonic has a moral obligation to keep product firmware secure, or offer upgrade programs for insecure products they decide to abandon.

Best Regards,
Carey Hildebrand

Gizmo Call-In Number2008/02/02 @ 10:00pm

I've been trying for months to purchase a Gizmo Call-In VoIP number for Manitoba. They never show any. Tonight they had just 1 available. So I snagged it up. No instant purchase email like I expected. Have to wait and see what happens now. :S
